My Pointer is called Gin Tanq 10, after the fine spirit Tanqueray. She’s a beautiful pedigree dog I received as a gift from a family friend. She’s not used to being inside, in fact she grew up on a farm down on the river. Until recently I’d kept her contained, but then I moved into a new house with an old, rotten fence. Gin Tanq must have pushed a board and it all fell down. My new neighbors said they’d seen her running around but they didn’t know who she belonged to. She’d never had her freedom before. In a panic, I rushed to my father who’s close by and we started driving in circles around the neighborhood, talking to people, looking up numbers of animal shelters when PetLink called to say Gin Tanq 10 had been found. Her collar was lost but the chip meant the girl who found her could get her scanned and reach us through PetLink. She also put up her picture on Facebook and – 1,2,3 – we were connected. Now, my brother and his wife are also going to have their dogs chipped. As soon as Gin Tanq got back, she chewed off the water hose and flooded my yard. Still only two years old – I wonder what travesty she’ll commit today!
