Pip is an English Setter who loves to run. We have had several weeks of unusually warm weather here which has prevented us from letting her run and getting as much exercise as usual. As a result, she developed a rather extreme case of ‘Cabin Fever’ and she escaped to chase a deer. Since I had no plans to take her out that afternoon, she wasn’t wearing her collar and had no ID attached.
A neighbor who lives about 2 miles away happened to see her in his yard that evening, didn’t recognize her, and couldn’t find any ID. He kept her overnight and the next morning he took her to his vet (who was not Pip’s normal vet) and had her microchip read. Since my neighbor was leaving town that morning he left Pip at the local police department. PetLink sent me an e-mail with my neighbor’s phone number, we made contact, and I was able to pick up Pip from the police. A good neighbor and PetLink solved what could have been a major problem for me.
