My black Lab, Denver, never gets out of the fence but one day it was left open by a family member and Denver trotted off. We live in a small town and the animal control agent lives less than two blocks away. He found Denver, checked him for a chip and called us. Denver wasn’t wearing a collar at the time, so the chip was a life saver!
