Our Whippet, Flash, was chipped as a puppy. Whippets as a breed do have a history of bolting – very fast! – but our Flash didn’t seem interested in leaving. Well, one week while we were away on vacation, Flash decided to stay at our, much-more-interesting-for-her, neighbor’s house. They were away too but were letting their landscapers use the pool. Those fellows didn’t know this Whippet hanging around belonged to us. Flash had snuck away while work was being done in our house and, without a collar on, her only identifier was the microchip.
When the landscapers called animal control about the stray they had found, the service scanned Flash’s chip and left repeated messages while we were out looking for her. Flash was found within hours!
