Millie ran off on November 26 … one month to the day since my beloved Mom died, here at home. I was inconsolable without little Millie to keep me company. I tried trapping, put over 100 posters up (crying the whole time), left food out, and got very sick from the cold. I finally gave up – stopped putting food out, in hopes that hunger would bring her home. Instead, I got a call two months later in January. She had approached an animal control officer nearly five miles away! I will never know if someone reported seeing her there in the park, but he brought her to the Montgomery County Humane Shelter in Rockville, MD, where she was scanned and….voila! They called me, and now she’s sleeping peacefully in her own room, eating a lot (she was very bony and starving). At first, I looked right at her in the cage, and told the staff, “This is not Millie!” They could not understand it, because the microchip number was mine! Three times I ‘denied’ her… she was literally unrecognizable! Finally, when I felt her chinchilla-like soft fur, and noticed the tufts on her ears, I knew it was her. Had it not been for the microchip and PetLink, and having my information registered, even had I looked at the stray cats online or… in person, at the shelter, I would not have brought Millie back home, as she had changed appearance so radically! This was truly a miracle. I’m only sad that I can’t tell Mom that…she’s home again. Thank you, PetLink!
