While we were away on vacation, our Shih Tzu, Oreo, got out through a hole he found in the fence. We got the call around midnight that he was gone. Then, the very next morning, we got another call from the local ASPCA that Oreo had been found. Right before leaving for vacation, we realized Oreo’s tags had come off his harness. Therefore, the only way he could be identified after being lost was by his microchip.
When the person who found Oreo took him in, the shelter routinely scanned him and was able to get all the information we needed. They called me before the finder had even left the building. I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical when we originally paid for the chip implant, but this really works! The situation was resolved for us before we even made it back home.
