It was March 19th of 2011. I left town for a friend’s birthday. When I arrived at the hotel I felt something was wrong, so I called to have a friend stop by my home and check on Corazon, my Chihuahua, and the house. My friend told me that on arriving she found both doors to my home were wide open and Corazon was missing! As soon as I got home I spent hours, days, weeks driving around the neighborhood looking for Corazon. I posted pictures and flyers all over town and put an ad in the local newspaper. I’d had her for two years and now she was gone! Fast forward to May of 2011. Corazon had been missing for two months by then and I was sure she would be gone forever, until a friend called me. She was on the other side of town, visiting her niece, and noticed a familiar little black and white Chihuahua in their yard. Sure enough it was Corazon! She has very distinct markings including a big black spot shaped like a heart.
The day Corazon went missing there had been an awful dust storm that blew my doors open and this family had found her in the yard. You would think they would have handed her over and be done with it when I said she was mine but that was not the case. They refused to return my baby. I called the police, and they said I’d have to take the case to court! So, I started my three-week-long journey to try and get court days and have the papers served. Finally, one day the family called me, insisting I pick up my dog. I guess the point of the story is that all of this could have been avoided if I’d just used PetLink from day one of getting Corazon. We have now been together for over five years and I can rest assured that if she were to ever go missing again, I would be able to find her.
