Pete is the love of my life, my pride and joy. He is my best friend, and even though he has four legs, I love him unconditionally. He is an outside cat, and when he didn’t show up for breakfast or dinner Sunday, I wasn’t too worried. However, when Monday rolled around and I couldn’t find him, I worried. We looked EVERYWHERE for him and he was nowhere to be found. We hunted through the woods, our house, and talked to the neighbors. It wasn’t until Tuesday night that one of our neighbors ran to our house. ‘We found your cat!’ he said.
Frantic, I followed. Pete had somehow slipped into their garage and was now stuck under some shelving. He was meowing piteously when I found him. His shoulders and collar prevented him from easily slipping out, but with a bit of encouragement, he finally wriggled free. He is now happily lounging on the deck after gorging himself on his food after he had been missing three whole days.
While Pete was missing, PetLink gave me a sense of security so I knew that, even if he had wandered into the next town, people would be able to identify him and return him to me. Fortunately, Pete’s collar wasn’t lost during his fiasco, but I hate to imagine what would have happened if he had chosen a house farther away to hole up and had not been wearing a collar! I cannot stress the importance of a microchip enough. Besides my darling Pete, that $40 was possibly the smartest purchase I ever made.
